Extraction
When removing is the right call
Extraction removes a tooth that cannot be saved, is causing infection, or needs to come out to make room as part of a wider treatment plan.

About the treatment
A last resort, never a first one
Keeping your own tooth is almost always preferable, so extraction is considered only when a tooth genuinely cannot be restored or is doing harm where it stands. Sometimes it is also planned deliberately — to relieve crowding as part of orthodontic treatment.
The area is numbed thoroughly before starting, and the tooth is eased out rather than forced. You will feel pressure but should not feel pain. Afterwards you are given written instructions covering the first 24 hours, which is the period that matters most for healing.
- Alternatives to extraction discussed first
- Carried out under local anaesthetic
- Written aftercare covering the critical first day
- Replacement options explained before you leave

Everything you need to know
Still unsure about extraction? Our team is always happy to talk it through and answer anything that is on your mind.
The tooth and surrounding area are fully numbed, so you feel pressure and movement rather than pain. Soreness afterwards is normal as the anaesthetic wears off.
