Orthodontic mini implants — temporary anchorage devices — give the orthodontist a stable point in the bone to push or pull teeth against, making movements possible that teeth alone cannot anchor.
About the treatment
Better anchorage, better control
Moving one tooth means pushing against another, and that other tooth tends to move too. A mini implant solves this: a small screw placed in the bone provides an anchor that does not shift, so force can be directed exactly where it is wanted.
They are small, placed under local anaesthetic, and removed once that stage of treatment is complete. They are a tool used within orthodontic treatment — quite different from the dental implants used to replace missing teeth.
