Scaling and Polishing
A properly clean start
Scaling removes the hardened deposits that brushing cannot shift; polishing smooths the surfaces afterwards so plaque finds it harder to re-attach.

About the treatment
What brushing cannot reach
Plaque that is not removed within a day or two hardens into calculus — tartar — which bonds to the tooth and cannot be brushed away. It sits above and below the gum line, holds bacteria against the gum and keeps the tissue inflamed.
Scaling removes those deposits from the crown and root surfaces. Polishing then smooths what is left and lifts surface staining. It is not a cosmetic add-on: a smooth surface is measurably harder for plaque to colonise.
- Removes hardened deposits above and below the gum line
- Lifts surface staining from tea, coffee and tobacco
- Smoother surfaces resist plaque re-forming
